Ipsy November Glam Bag Review: GIRL MEETS GLITTER

Please note product photos have been taken directly from the Ipsy website

So it’s no surprise given my love of sample products and snail mail that these delivery box fads are just for me.  I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber for 7 months now, and my friend Kate just loved Ipsy and suggested I give it a try instead of Birchbox.  I was a little hesitant, so I did what any logical person would do.  I kept my Birchbox subscription and signed up for an Ipsy one as well.  I was super stoked on my first Ipsy Glam Bag, and my second one certainly didn’t disappoint.

So for starters, the bag was a super cute sparkly makeup bag that now houses my tampons and lip products so that they don’t get loss in the abyss that is my purse.

Now to the products:

TEMPTU S/B Highlighter

Now I will be the first to tell you that I have minimal experience with highlighter.  But a quick trip to the Ipsy website helped me to figure out what to do with it.  After applying my BB Cream (which I use as a foundation) I apply a small amount of the highlighter to my finger tip and sweep across the apple of my cheek, and upwards towards by eyebrows.  A second slightly larger dab goes between my eyebrow and upwards blending out, then down to the tip of my nose.  Before receiving it in my Glam Bag, I never knew I needed highlighter.  Now I can’t imagine my face without it.

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Eye Base

I don’t have enough good things to say about this eye base.  Prior to receiving this in my Glam Bag, I was using a simple eye shadow primer from Sephora.  Boy was this a game changer.  Not only does it make a great simple eye shadow if you’re in a hurry, but it makes the shimmery shadows to which I’m partial really pop.  The only time I don’t like it is if I’m trying to keep my eyes muted with a less flashy matte shadow.  Then it’s back to my good ole Sephora primer.

Elizabeth Mott you’re so FINE Eyeliner

I’ve never been too good with liquid eyeliner.  It usually ends up in my eye, on my nose and in my hair.  Then it doesn’t dry and I try and put my mascara on and I get an extra line and have to redo my eye shadow.  So I wasn’t too sure I would like this.  And sure enough, it ended up in my eye, on my nose and in my hair. But it dried quickly enough that I didn’t get the extra line so I guess that’s a plus.  I would give it 3 out of 5 stars simply for the fact that it is a good product, good sized and I was excited to try it.  Just not my thing I guess.

J. Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint

Oh dear god they sent me lip paint.  This bag just seems to be full of products I’m not used to using.  Besides tinted chap stick and some lip gloss, I’ve never been one for big bold lips.  But I got this Wonder Paint in Mad Splatter and I was excited to try it.  I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be a lip stain or a lip gloss and it seemed it was something in between.  It never set or really stained.  It just kind of exploded on my lips.  I adored the color and I loved the way it looked on me, but I just wasn’t a fan of how messy it was.  I guess I would have liked it better if it had set.

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray

I’m not gonna lie, I’m not impressed with this hair spray.  Sure it makes my hair smell nice and it makes it a little extra shiny.  But you’re going to have to work hard to beat my AquaNet.  That shit holds like no one’s business.  Now this Marc Anthony fancy fancy spray on the other hand, is great for finishing off your hair after styling.  I wouldn’t reccomend it for say, building an updo or holding super tight curls.  For loose waves and next day hair, this works well.

All in all, I LOVED this Glam Bag.  I’m excited for what’s to come from Ipsy!  I got introduced to some great new products and found some looks that worked for me.  When I get up the nerve to take some selfies maybe I’ll update.  But maybe not.
